TEMPO 2009
sacred dance
collection of works
Dance has played a significant part in the spirituality of different cultures, from pagan fertility rites to modern-day worship services. Through contemporary and ethnic dance forms, this new programme explores the concept and practice of dance as a spiritual performing art and sacred ritual. Featuring a major new contemporary work by Samoan dance company Ura Tabu, plus works inspired by Indian Temple dancing, traditional Canadian ‘jingle dress’ costumes and the music of Leonard Cohen, Bach and Hirini Melbourne.
