Free the Clown

A standalone workshop which introduces participants to fundamental Clowning concepts whilst assisting them to discover and cultivate their own clown persona.

Participants will leave with the physical theatre tools and theoretical understandings to comfortably engage in playful scenes as a clown, as well as how to introduce these ideas into other performance forms.
The workshop will be lead by Aldana Barqui (ARG) and George Fenn (NZ).

Bring comfortable clothes and footwear for movement as well as a water bottle.

George Fenn is a performer with a decade of experience on the front lines of entertainment. They are a seasoned clown and improviser, who incorporates these skills into their unique brand of interactive comedy.
They are a graduate of Victoria University Theatre and winner of the Spirit of the Fringe for both Wellington and Auckland in recognition for their lateral approaches to bringing irreverent laughter to whoever discovers them in the street or on the stage.

Aldana Barqui has trained in Lecoq's theatrical pedagogy at Cachimba Theater School in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2014-2017), and in the Open Space Acting Training Course affiliated with the Metropolitan School of Dramatic Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2017-2018). Aldana also studied and practices Contact Improvisation dance (since 2014). In 2022, Aldana attended the Perro Training directed by Diego Mauriño, furthering training as a Physical Performer and Troupe Clown.

She facilitates Theater classes for children and adults, as well as Contact Improvisation classes. She also performs as a stilt walker and participates in performances and cultural events. Aldana is interested in investigating the dramatic use of masks and object manipulation. She enjoys experimenting with visual and plastic arts.

In Argentina, Aldana was a member of self-managed theater groups for both indoor and street performances as a creative actress. She undertook international tours (to Brazil and Argentina) and national tours (in the Argentinian Patagonia) with the two street theater groups she was involved with.

Additionally, Aldana is a student of the Bachelor's degree in Psychomotricity and serves as a coordinator for creativity and play workshops for children.
