Waiata Workshop with Ebony Andrew

One of the best ways to learn te reo is through waiata! Join vocal powerhouse Ebony Andrew (Ngāti Maniapoto) and guitarist Bray Jeffery (Ngāti Naho) in this fun workshop for anyone wanting to learn, embrace or begin their reo Māori journey through waiata...

Tutor Ebony speaks of the purpose of the workshop, saying "We will learn some popular Māori waiata that will help you learn some of the foundations of kaupapa Māori; help you decolonise yourself; and will make you feel more confident in a kaupapa Māori situation . All while having a lot of fun singing some beautiful reo Māori classics. Anyone and everyone is welcome!"

In 2022, we celebrate many things for Māori - 50 years since the Māori Language Petition was presented to Parliament, 40 years of Kohanga Reo, 40 years of Te Karere, and 50 years of Te Matatini.

This waiata workshop aims to continue the legacy of waiata, inspire, excite and provide more access to the language and culture to everyone and anyone. It will celebrate and encourage the revitalisation of te reo Māori. Plus, who doesn't love a good sing?

All are welcome to join our safe space to learn and explore waiata.
